On May 17th, the national holiday, the spirit is festive. Certainly the most important day in all of Norway.
17 May(syttende mai), the national holiday, celebrates the signing of the constitution in 1814 that marked Norway's independence. It is without doubt the most important day in all of Norway. Today, the national holiday is celebrated with great pomp and ceremony: the day is a public holiday and Norwegians dress in their Bunad (traditional costumes that vary in shape and colour depending on the region). It is a day of celebration throughout the country!
