Labour Day, May1, has been celebrated since 1890. The resolution on these celebrations was adopted by an international congress in 1889 in Paris to commemorate the general strike and mass demonstrations of workers in Chicago, which took place in 1886 and which demanded a working time of eight hours per day. After the creation of Czechoslovakia, from 1919 onwards, MayDay was declared a public holiday, a workers' day and a day for fighting unemployment
