Practical information : Move & Laze around Sweden
Budget & Tips
Sweden is a paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts, and most of them are free. You can enjoy running around the beautiful lakes and sea, swimming for hours, cycling or hiking. Water sports are everywhere, and the most accessible is undoubtedly kayaking, since excursions can be made from 50 euros.
In winter, ice skating is very easy, but rentals can sometimes be a bit expensive (count around 20-30 euros depending on the place). You can also rent equipment for cross-country skiing or just skiing (although there are not many resorts in the country, there are some!).
What's very local
In Sweden, saunas are everywhere. Indeed, all municipal swimming pools are equipped with one, but many Swedes also have a sauna in their house or in their building (which they then share with their neighbors!). There are also public saunas (without swimming pool), generally located at the seaside or a lake, in order to be able to bathe between two sessions at high temperature. The activity is practiced in summer as well as in winter, and during the coldest months, Swedes do not hesitate to break the ice covering the lakes in order to dive into the icy water and go back to warmth afterwards! Bathing suits are generally forbidden in the saunas, where you only need a towel to cover yourself, but don't be surprised if many Swedes are simply naked; it's the norm! An experience not to be missed, really typical.
To be booked
It is best to make reservations for all paid activities and organized tours, especially in high season.
