Timetable

Stores are usually open Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday. During the high tourist season, souvenir stores may be open seven days a week. They open at 9 or 10 am and close at 6 or 7 pm.

Budget & Tips

Small souvenirs, such as mole magnets or wooden puppets for children, are quite cheap and you can treat yourself without breaking the bank with beautiful objects for less than 20 €. Handicrafts, on the other hand, are more expensive. Puppets made in galleries, wooden chess sets, handmade soaps and ceramics are often very expensive in Prague. When visiting the provincial cities, you will certainly find the opportunity to buy directly from workshops to save money.

Sales

Sale periods in the Czech Republic are regulated but, as in France, the periods during which they are allowed tend to multiply. There are sales in winter and spring, and prices are reduced by up to 20% of their original value, which can mean good deals.

What's very local

The Czech Republic is full of typical products that you can put in your suitcase (see for details our file "What to bring back?" in the "Discover" section). Bohemian crystal is one of the star souvenirs and is obviously very expensive, although the quality is high. But you will find a lot of other handmade souvenirs, often made of wood, and for all ages (toys, games, decoration...). In most cases, handicrafts can be purchased in stores, markets or, for some, directly from the manufacturer

Bargaining is not widespread in Prague where all prices are posted, as in France. However, in the off-season, you can try to negotiate small deals, for example, on hotel room rates, especially if you are staying more than three nights in a hotel.

Tourist traps

Souvenirs and handicrafts can be found in many markets throughout the country. But beware, in Prague, tourist traps are not rare. Make sure that your nice wooden toy is not from China before you take out your wallet!
