Expect to pay €20-40 for two people staying in a youth hostel, camping site or guesthouse, €40-70 in family-run hotels, €70-100 in good classic hotels and over €100 if you want to treat yourself. Beware, though, that rates can sometimes double if you book online: we've seen big variations between rates posted locally and those charged by booking.com, for example. For your reservations, first try to contact the establishments directly by e-mail, Facebook or Instagram, or book on the chosen hotel's website when possible. If that doesn't work, then book on booking.com or similar.

To be booked

In Ohrid, accommodation in the old town is often full in summer. You'll need to book as early as May-June to ensure you get a well-placed room. That said, you'll always find nice, free rooms in the neighboring lakeside communities. Generally speaking, it's mainly residents of the country's major cities and members of the diaspora who occupy the hotels in the tourist areas in summer. The number of French tourists is so negligible (6,000-9,000 a year on average) that they may be "forgotten" by the reservation staff and their rooms allocated to more regular tourists. So check by telephone that your reservation has been registered (the week before your arrival, for example). And don't forget to check our "When to go? : depending on the festivities, hotels in certain villages or towns may be fully booked if you don't reserve far enough in advance.

What's very local

Nothing in particular. You'll find the full range of accommodation here, and breakfast is generally very standard: bread, jam, honey, butter, tea, coffee, cereals, eggs... As the staff are generally very poorly paid, don't hesitate to leave tips.
