This is the feast that marks the breaking of the fast after the month of Ramadan. Its name literally means "little feast", as opposed to Aïd el-Kebir, the "big feast". In Algeria, Muslims begin the day with prayers in mosques throughout the country. Women prepare traditional cakes, such as honey makrout, as gifts for loved ones. During the day, many devotees pay their respects at the graves of loved ones in cemeteries and visit elderly relatives. It's a day of great solidarity.
