Practical information : Going out Jordan
Timetable
Nightclubs open in the middle of the evening and close around 3am in Amman. They may close a little later in Aqaba, especially at weekends (Thursday and Friday in Jordan). Clubs are often closed at the start of the week (Saturday, Sunday and Monday).
Budget & Tips
Nightclubs and bars are perceived as places of perdition by many locals. What's more, alcohol is consumed! As a result, these places often charge high prices, but are considerably cheaper than those in Europe, because the standard of living is not the same.
To be booked
Petra by Night, the show that illuminates the Treasury with thousands of candles, cannot be booked in advance. You will need to arrive at the Visitor Center in advance.
Night transport
Cabs roam the streets of Amman all night long. They usually slow down or honk at you when they're free.
Age restrictions
The consumption of alcohol and entry to nightclubs is reserved for people of legal age. The legal age of majority in Jordan is 18.
What's very local
If you're invited to spend the evening at an "Arab disco", be aware that this refers to a peep show, or even a place of prostitution. Classic nightclubs are known as "Russian discos". Proper attire is required at the entrance to select establishments.
Smokers
Officially, establishments open to the public are required to be non-smoking. In reality, this is less the case, or there will be a "smoking room".
Tourist traps
Jordan is a safe country. There are no particular scams. Just make sure the club you're aiming for is a "Russian disco".
