What to visit Montenegro?
Good to know to visit Montenegro
Timetable
The opening hours of heritage sites are quite easy to integrate for those who want to tour historical Montenegro. Museums are open from 9 am to 5 pm without interruption, and generally closed on Sundays. To visit the churches and mosques, avoid the hours of the services, at 10 am and 6 pm for the former and Friday noon for the latter; otherwise, the religious buildings are open to the public.
To be booked
Montenegro is a dynamic but very young tourist nation. Even if they increase every year, the number of European tourists is still modest and the places to visit offer the advantage of never being overcrowded. You will not have to make any reservation, which makes your stay very pleasant. The only thing you have to expect is that for the visit of the monasteries of Cetinje or Ostrog, you will have to wait in line, sometimes for half an hour.
Budget & Tips
Heritage tourism is still not very developed, and there are no museum or transport passes as yet in Central Europe. But considering the low prices of public transport, it is really not worth paying attention. In Montenegro, you can "spend without counting the cost" because a parking space on the beach costs from 1 to 2 € in the afternoon. Very often the museums, in the capital or in the interior of the country, are free. As a general rule, count between 3 and 5 € your ticket for one of the big museums of Cetinje, Kotor or Podgorica.
Main events
Montenegro has long been known for events on the Adriatic coast, either festive (Kotor carnival, electro and jazz music) or more classical (Budva music festival, Herceg Novi theatre scene).
As you enter the interior of the country, you will discover numerous folk dance festivals, singing and choir competitions, not forgetting the famous guzla, a one-stringed guitar.
Montenegro wants to be young and dynamic, and that is why many sports competitions (parachuting, water skiing) and trendy music competitions (rock, dance, electro) are organized. Nothing beats a David Guetta concert on the terraces of the Splendid hotel.
Guided tours
Many local agencies will be happy to help you discover the natural beauty of the country: fjords, underwater treasures, islands, alpine fauna. Other agencies specialize in new sports (diving, paragliding, trekking, thread between mountains). In the seaside resorts, tours of the city by double-decker bus or carriage are often offered; at sea, yachts or sailing boats with captain can be rented. In all the heritage tourist spots (Budva, Cetinje, Kotor, Ostrog, Podgorica), tour guides will be happy to show you around the city.
