Celebrated every May 26, the National Day of Forgiveness honors all Aboriginal victims of colonization.
The National Day of Forgiveness has been held annually on May 26 since 1998 throughout Australia. This day of tribute remembers not only the abuse and trauma suffered by the children of the Stolen Generation, but also the abuse and trauma suffered by all Aboriginal people since the beginning of colonization. Over the years, many politicians have associated themselves with this event. The day is usually punctuated by demonstrations, conferences and films shown on this occasion.
