One of the most important dates on the Australian calendar: this public holiday is nothing less than the country's national holiday.
January 26 celebrates the anniversary of the arrival of the British First Fleet and the beginning of the colony at Sydney Cove, initiated by Captain Phillip in 1788. The anniversary of this arrival of the First Fleet became the country's national holiday in 1818. On this public holiday, all of Australia celebrates: it is the biggest event in the country. Parades take place in town, fireworks, concerts, barbecues on the beach... But today a part of the population is opposed to this celebration, symbol of the colonization.
