As the name suggests, this special day celebrates the unique heritage, cultural diversity and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada. Celebrations are held across the country by individual nations. Why June 21? The summer solstice is the longest day of the year, representing the Festival of Light and has spiritual significance to Aboriginal communities.
