What budget for activities and outings Fiji?
Day trips, which include transport, can be quite costly. If you're resourceful, you can get to points of interest by bus whenever possible.
For children, discounts are often available on the various excursions.
Diving in Fiji is a must-do activity, available on all the islands. Those not tempted by diving can go snorkeling. Snorkeling can be free if you use your own equipment or that of your resort, and go off on your own to see the marine life. Otherwise, dive centers often offer snorkeling trips in addition to diving, which are generally less expensive.
Massages are available everywhere in Fiji. You may have the opportunity to try the " bobo ", the traditional Fijian massage where the elbow and thumb are used to massage the body coated with coconut oil. It can be quite sporty as a result. In terms of price ranges, this will often depend on the standing of the establishment, but in principle it will remain cheaper than in France. In some places, it's also possible to have a massage right on the beach.
Sunset on the beach will be a classic of your trip to Fiji.
Free activities : most resorts offer kayaks and paddles free of charge. It makes for a great excursion! Just be sure to check the times at which you can leave, depending on the tide, to avoid damaging the reefs and coral.
Fiji'sgolf courses are of the highest quality, and you'll find them in Nadi (Port Denarau), Pacific Harbour and Taveuni. Tennis courts are often close by.
Surfing and water sports can also be part of your program, as Fiji offers a wide range of these activities.
In almost every large market you'll find a"handicraft" section selling Fijian handicrafts. You can negotiate prices at the market, within reason. We also recommend stores in partnership with local associations(Rise Beyond the Reef, for example), which are usually well signposted when there is such a partnership. The Jack's of Fiji chain of stores is ubiquitous throughout the country, offering a wide selection of Fijian handicrafts and clothing.
What budget to eat Fiji?
Prices vary considerably in Fiji, depending on the standard of the establishment. A snack at the market or in a small local restaurant will set you back a few Fijian dollars, while a meal in a top-class restaurant can quickly climb to around 80-100 Fijian dollars per person. But generally speaking, if you go to a local restaurant, the price will be lower than in France.
In really touristy areas, prices will be similar to those in France, but otherwise significantly cheaper.
What is the budget for accommodation Fiji?
Fiji offers a number of very luxurious hotels, generally referred to asresorts. These include large establishments as well as more intimate hotels. Before booking, it's important to compare the hotel's reservation site with the booking platforms, as the latter may offer you a lower price. Resorts often offer all-inclusivepackages that include accommodation, menus, transfers and activities. These packages can include a free night or overall price reductions. It's up to you to decide whether these packages are right for you.
Fiji is a popular destination for backpackers, i.e. travelers who prefer low-cost accommodation and, being highly mobile, often travel very light (with their backpacks on their backs, hence the name backpackers). Fiji's proximity to Australia and New Zealand (approx. 3-hour flight) is one of the main reasons why young people from these countries come to Fiji. The Mamanucas and Yasawas often havedormitories, and there are also a few dormitories in Viti Levu. However, we'd like to qualify this description: the comfort and value for money of these establishments in Fiji are far from exceptional, so don't expect the perfectly clean establishments you'll find in other countries. And there isn't always a very wide range of choice in this price bracket. In our opinion, Fiji remains a rather upmarket destination when it comes to accommodation if you want a minimum of comfort.
In the intermediate price range between luxury resorts and very inexpensive accommodation, it's difficult to establish a rule for all these establishments. Some, at the higher end of the price range (between 70 and 150 euros per night), offer excellent comfort and a privileged setting with a limited number of rooms. On the other hand, some larger establishments in the €40 to €70 per night range may disappoint you with their services: the bedding is not always very good, and the establishments are noisy in the morning and evening, particularly on the first floor.
Homestays are widespread in Fiji, but not always easy to organize directly from a distance. So you'll often have to go through intermediaries (travel agencies, tour operators). On site, you can always ask for homestay addresses. It's a great way to spend the night in a traditional village, take part in the kava ceremony and discover Fijian culture. But don't expect much in the way of comfort.
Travel budget Fiji and cost of living
Top-of-the-range services are commonplace in Fiji. Resorts often have a price range from a minimum of 200 euros per night to an average of 400 or 500 euros. This may include meals on some islands. If you're staying at a resort, you should be aware that everything will generally be more expensive locally, especially meals. For the most luxurious services, the budget will even be in the thousands of euros per night, as is the case for private islands with only one very selective resort on the island. The activities offered by local travel agencies quickly add up to a hefty budget.
For those on a smaller budget, you'll need to alternate between youth hostels and homestays, with prices ranging from 25 to 60 euros per night. In some places, cheap accommodation is hard to come by. When it comes to eating out, it's much easier to find a good deal, even for a few Fijian dollars. Bus travel will save you money on your activity budget.
For an intermediate budget, you'll need to spend between 80 and 150 euros a night, going to local but good-quality restaurants, and alternating between organized tours and sightseeing on your own.
