Practical information : Going out Fiji
Timetable
Fiji is not necessarily an Ibiza-style party destination, but you'll find bars and nightclubs in the larger towns (Suva town center, Nadi's Martintar district) or in tourist areas. Closing times are generally between 1 and 3 a.m.
To be booked
Reservations are not required for bars and nightclubs. For local shows, it is advisable to book in advance.
Night transport
Although buses run relatively late in Viti Levu's main towns, we recommend taking a cab in the evening and at night.
Age restrictions
The drinking age in Fiji is 18. Controls are not very strict, so it's up to the adult accompanying the minors.
What's very local
During your stay in Fiji, you're sure to catch a performance of meke, the traditional dance that combines dancing, singing and mime. Firewalking is also very often organized, a show that showcases the fire-walking skills of certain locals.
Music plays a major role in Fiji and will be omnipresent during your stay (on the bus, late at night near your hotel).
Smokers
Smoking is prohibited in public places. Legislation is quite similar to our own, particularly as regards restaurants and bars, which sometimes have designated smoking areas, but otherwise the norm is no smoking.
Tourist traps
The Martintar district of Nadi, which is the most festive in the evening, is home to many prostitutes after dark, so solicitations are high.
