The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, is celebrated on the evening of the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month. On this day, the full moon is the roundest and brightest of the year, symbolizing family unity and togetherness. It is also the birthday of the god of the soil, and the peasants take advantage of it to ask for his benevolence for the coming year. On this day, children walk around with lighted lanterns and people eat mooncakes.
