A dazzling festival where parades, songs, dances and fireworks celebrate Singapore's independence and multiculturality.
The national holiday celebrates the independence of the Republic of Singapore when the small city-state was separated from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965. On August 9, a big parade and fireworks are organized. Singaporeans dress in red and white, the colors of the national flag. To watch the fireworks, go to the Marina Bay Dam or directly to the Marina. Tickets for the parade can be purchased months in advance.
