Practical information : Going out Trinidad & Tobago
Timetable
In Trinidad & Tobago, the party usually starts quite late, especially on weekends. We start with happy hour, of course. With the exception of Tobago's Crown Point, which is alive every day of the week thanks to the young tourists who come here for the board sports, don't expect to be partying on weekdays.
Budget & Tips
The parties leading up to Carnival are extremely popular with locals and visitors alike, so it's a good idea to find out before you travel if you'd like to take part, and get your tickets online or from a local travel agent who will know the tricks of the trade to get a ticket for you. Please note that prices can vary from US$50 to US$500, depending on the evening in question!
To be booked
Pre-Carnival parties must be booked in advance, everything is sold out several weeks before the party.
Night transport
At night, official cab recommended if you do not have a vehicle. Do not rely on public transportation and, especially in Port of Spain, be careful.
Age restrictions
If you look young, don't forget to take an identity document proving that you're over 18, otherwise you'll probably be refused entry to places that sell alcohol.
What's very local
The "parties" organized by the bands participating in the Carnival are a real must for Tribagonians, who look for invitations to the best parties as soon as the Carnival ends for the next one.
Every Sunday in Buccoo, just a few minutes from Crown Point, the Buccoo Sunday School takes place. It starts around 8 a.m. with a concert by the Buccooneers Steelband and continues late into the night with live music. Soca, calypso, reggae, everything you need to dance until dawn. Unless you're staying in Buccoo, take a cab and arrange your departure time.
