Timetable
Although most stores and markets announce an opening from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, count on 10am to 5pm, especially in the markets. On Sundays, everything is closed.
Budget & Tips
International payment cards are widely accepted in Nassau, but if you are going to the Out Islands, bring cash as sometimes this will be the only way to pay. Again, the posted price almost never includes taxes, which have increased significantly in recent years (VAT increased from 7.5% to 12% in 2018).
Sales
For the sales, the Bahamians go to Florida for Black Friday, the prices are much more interesting there!
What's very local
Straw markets are the traditional street markets of the Bahamas. This is where visitors usually shop for souvenirs before returning home. You can find handicrafts, basketry and trinkets of all kinds. Be careful, not everything is made in the archipelago...Tourist traps
As in many street markets, you may find items that look locally made but actually come from factories on the other side of the globe... Be careful if you want authenticity!
