A week-long celebration of the independence of the Bahamas, declared in 1973. Music and dances are honored in all the islands.
Since the independence of the colony, granted by Great Britain on July 10, 1973, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas has celebrated this historic day each year with numerous events held on both sides of the country. There is no admission fee to any of the events on this national holiday. The ultimate goal is for visitors and locals alike to spend the week touring the island to make the most of the many parades and festivities. Beautiful fireworks will punctuate the evenings during this week of festivities!
