Activities in the Bahamas can be quite expensive. Count between 75 US$ for half-day excursions and around 150 US$ for a full day. But it is always easy to find a small deserted beach, there are many of them, even in high season, and to settle down to spend a day of relaxation or discovering the underwater world with a simple pair of fins and a mask!

Saturday is the day of the fishing trip with friends or family, involving of course a small feast on the embers on the way home.

If you choose a Bahamian-led activity, you will not be required to obtain a permit for most water sports. Be careful if you come with your own boat, things are different, so make sure you check before you arrive, a fishing permit for example is required for foreign boats, unless you are Bahamian. Divers, don't forget your medical certificates as local consultations can be expensive...

Whichever activity you choose, it is always best to book at least the day before. For the dives in high season, anticipate even more because the places are very much in demand.

Main events

Apart from the famous Nassau Marathon which takes place every year in January, the Bahamas is famous for its regattas and deep-sea fishing competitions. The fishing tournaments are so numerous that it is impossible to make a list of them, we invite you to inquire before your trip if you wish to attend the return of the boats after the fishing, an unforgettable moment for the amateurs. As for the regattas, every month of the year has its competitions and among the most notable are the National Family Island Regatta held at the end of April in the Exumas and showcasing old-fashioned Bahamian boats, the Long Island Regatta held at the end of June against locally built sloops, and the North Eleuthera Sailing Regatta held in mid-October between Eleuthera and Harbour Island.
