The commemoration of the abolition of slavery is celebrated on 20 December. It is implemented by Sarda Garriga in 1848.

The commemoration of the abolition of slavery is celebrated on 20 December(20 désamb) in Reunion Island, the effective date of the liberation of slaves on the island in 1848. Called "Fet Kaf", this huge celebration takes place all over the island and in every home, and marks the beginning of the end of year festivities. It combines in most communes an official ceremony with elected officials and a large parade followed by concerts or shows. Small regional specificity: the day is also a public holiday on the island. A strong moment.
