On August 6, the island is draped in the national colors of green, black and gold to proudly commemorate the anniversary of Independence.
Every year on August 6, Jamaicans proudly commemorate the anniversary of the departure of the British settlers and the birth of their nation, created in 1962 under the leadership of Alexander Bustamante and Norman Manley. The whole island takes the national colors green, black and gold of its flag. The celebration of the independence is usually integrated in the Jamaica Festival which starts on July 31 in Kingston and Montego Bay with a nautical parade in Kingston Bay, a Gala concert and traditional dances.
