The Têt Doan Ngo festival, held each year on the day of the lunar month (Double Five festival), celebrates the summer solstice.
Têt Doan Ngo (also known as Têt giêt sâu bo [festival for killing worms and insects]) is held on the5th day of the5th lunar month (Double Five festival). It celebrates the summer solstice. As the heat approaches, the aim is to purge oneself, to prevent illness and the harmful influences caused by the genies of death. From the summer solstice onwards, Yang declines, giving way to Yin, the negative principle of Cold and Darkness. In Ben Tre, in the Mekong delta, thousands of people come to the islet Tien to bathe in the river.
