Ultra Vomit, a French heavy metal parody band from Nantes, composed of King Fetus, the elf Manard, the dwarf Flockos and the leprechaun Bausson, will end their 2022 tour by performing on the main stage of the King Arthur festival. In 2021, their last album Panzer Surprise! went gold. We listen to the cult titles Kammthaar, Calojira or Evier Métal, titles which are often born from fulgurances in repetition. Meeting without filter with two pillars of the band, furiously nice: Fétus (the singer and guitarist) and Manard (the drummer).
A Fétus : How do you manage to get your voice out ? Are you coached?
Fétus: Yes, by Florent Pagny. More seriously, I started seeing a speech therapist in 2010 when I had nodules, since then he gives me advice. On the other hand, you have to respect your instrument, I can't do voices that are too low or too high, but like everyone else. For example, I love Michael Jackson, and when I do karaoke, there are some songs that I can do, but those that I love like Billie Jean, I can't do because the notes are too high.
You've already performed at Motocultor, Hellfest, Olympia: is there a new stage you'd really like to play or one that stands out?
Fétus: The Mainstage of Hellfest ! It's the big mass of the metal festival in the world. We met people who had done other international scenes, they told us: "Nothing like Hellfest".
Manard: Wacken (in Germany), it's a festival I would like to do.
What is your favorite song to play on stage?
Manard : Takoyaki because it's very complete in terms of instrumentation.
Fétus: Kammthaar because it happens something with the public, it's the most known so the public sings.
The video, with Emmanuel Macron, we talk about it? What was it like to make this video with the president?
Fétus: In fact, we said to ourselves right up to the end: "it's never going to happen, it's so crazy, so bizarre as a situation."
Manard: ... Yes, we really said to ourselves until the last moment, there is a guy who will come and say "No, but Mr. Macron, don't go, you will be ridiculous". And then, at some point, it happens and we are forced to believe that it is happening and we do what we have to do.
Fetus: ... and it lasts 1 minute, 1 minute of drubbing and then we put our stuff away and it's lunar. To say that it is pure pleasure, no, but if we had to do it again, we would do it again because it is still crazy to go and play in the gardens of the Elysée.
Manard: ...On the other hand we would block the stand, the comments because it was very violent, I had nightmares about it. How can we imagine that a guy from the "République En Marche" could come and ask us to come and play at the Elysée. We accepted because it is Mc Fly and Carlito who proposed us to do it and it was so crazy, nobody ever did that even abroad, that we said to ourselves "let's do it! And if we have to summarize, it's the shock of two totally opposite worlds, we were born at the same period and they are destinies at the antipodes.
When will your next album be released?
Manard: We started to work on it and we can say that we already have 30% so we think that we can release it for 2024.
The album of maturity?
Fétus: no but of the amateurishness yes surely we can say that
