The island of Bréhat is a small paradise on Earth, where only pedestrians and bicycles are allowed. A 10-minute crossing from the Ploubazlanec pier with Les Vedettes de Bréhat takes you to the island. Before discovering the Ile aux Fleurs, we recommend a wellness stopover at the Best Western Plus Les Terrasses de Bréhat, located at the foot of the pier.
We tested for you the "Sustainable Tourism" label offered by theGuingamp-Baie de Paimpol tourist office.
The story of our stay opposite the island of Bréhat in the Côtes d'Armor
It's autumn. On the Arcouest road leading to the hotel, we walk past wilted agapanthus, the remnants of a floral summer, to reach our destination. We can't go any further, as the hotel is at the end of the road. We enter the free, secure, private parking lot and head for reception. The receptionist escorts us to our sea-facing room, where we'll be staying for two nights.
Early in the morning, the rain drips down on the windows, giving a very special flavor to our "cocooning" morning.
Breakfast is very well stocked: homemade yoghurt, freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries, fresh bread, scrambled eggs and bacon, as well as fresh fruit to start the day. There's even champagne for those who have something to celebrate! Particular care is taken to use as few disposable containers as possible: we're very sensitive to this eco-responsible approach.
Off to the spa for a half-hour back massage. The beautician is very attentive and adapts to the desired pressure. Treatments are performed with Payot neo-apothecary products, created from the synergy of nature's intelligence and scientific innovation, to reinvent the skin. It's very pleasant and relaxing.
The hotel is also equipped with a heated indoor pool and a hammam just a stone's throw from the spa for further relaxation. But the real treat lies one floor up, on one of the lush green terraces. Here, a whirlpool bath has been installed high above the sea, offering a glimpse of the coastline of the island of Bréhat opposite. A unique moment of indulgence that takes on a whole new dimension when enjoyed by two. The adjacent sauna brings this wellness interlude to a fitting close, warming up bodies that are beginning to feel the first chill of autumn.
In the afternoon, we plan to take a stroll along the nearby GR 34 and head off in the direction of Loguivy de la Mer. With hiking boots on, we take in the beautiful autumn coastal scenery.
In the evening, we return to the hotel to dine on the veranda and continue contemplating the panorama. The marine brasserie focuses on fresh, local produce. The fish is expertly cooked. We dine on monkfish, whose flesh has retained its tenderness thanks to the skill of chef Cyrille Dorveaux. Razor clams cooked with parsleyed butter as a starter are an excellent way to discover local gastronomy. With an accessible wine list, all the elements are in place for a pleasant evening in a soft, subdued atmosphere.
The rooms are spacious and the bedding very comfortable. Whether single, double, superior, suite or duplex, there are plenty of possibilities for you to come alone, as a couple, with family or friends. As the hotel is eco-labeled, we use 100% natural welcome products and have taken numerous steps to save water. We have an excellent night's sleep.
Our last day is devoted to visiting the island. We wake up to the sun beaming down on our room. The view is marvellous and the spectacle priceless. The Bréhat launches leave regularly - just check the timetable.
Arriving at the enclosed port, we decide to rent bikes to discover the whole island in a day. We recommend that you get lost like we did, for the chance to discover some heavenly vistas. Stop off at "Le Pain de Sucre" bakery in the village, or eat at one of the island's excellent restaurants: Le 22, Crech-Kerio, Sea crêpes n'Sun crêperie or the Allégoat bistro. The Moulin du Birlot, Guerzido beach and Paon lighthouse offer the best views.
Return to the mainland with stars in your eyes.
