Practical information : Going out Crete
Timetable
The nightlife in Crete starts after 10:30 pm and it can last until dawn! As a rule, bars close at 3am, but as the party can start at any time, the closing time often depends on the mood!
According to local habits, during the summer, dinner is never served before 9:30 pm. This is the time when restaurants and taverns start to be crowded. As there is no rush at the table, going out starts at 11:30 pm to midnight, rarely earlier.
Budget & Tips
An outing with a meal and two drinks in a bar costs around €40 per person.
Night transport
Do not rely on public transportation to get home from a party, unless a private shuttle has been arranged. For outings, plan to call a cab, making sure it can take you home later in the night. Otherwise, you'll have to rely on your legs or the motorized - but not alcoholic! - of a partner for the evening.
Age restrictions
In order to drink and consume alcohol in a café or public place, you must be 18 years old, but this law is not widely followed and no one will ask for an ID card from a young person who orders a drink of alcohol.
What's very local
Music and concerts with dancing and matinees! For the Cretans, with their sense of celebration, every occasion is good to gather, sing and dance until the end of the night. Especially during weddings, summer panigyri festivities and to celebrate the island's patron saint. On these occasions, you will see the whole island and all generations eating, drinking, dancing and singing for sometimes several days!
