Families hang garlands of flowers on house doors and car hoods. We get them at the end of June.
May1 in Greece is called "protomagia", literally: the first day of May. It's International Workers' Day - and a public holiday - but it's also the celebration of spring and nature. To mark the occasion, families hang garlands of flowers above the doors of their homes and on the hoods of their cars. Protomagia" also has its roots in Anthestria, a festival in honor of Dionysus, celebrating plants, flowers and the rebirth of man and nature. Wreaths and bouquets will not be hung until the end of June.
