The Tibetan New Year is celebrated with much folklore, particularly in Dharamsala, the capital of the Tibetan government-in-exile.
Tibetan New Year is the most fervently celebrated holiday in Dharamsala, Tibet's capital-in-exile and home to the Dalai Lama. For two whole days, traditional dances, ceremonies, rituals, communal prayers, temple visits and family meals mark the occasion. Inhabitants dress in their finest, colorfully woven traditional Tibetan garb. The festival is celebrated wherever Buddhism occupies an important or majority position: Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh in particular.
