Ramadan, called Ramzan in India, is the holy month when Muslims fast and pray during the day and eat at night.

Ramadan, or Ramzam, occurs in the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims pray and fast all day for one month. Charity is required for the needy during this holy month. It is celebrated in all Muslim communities in the country, from Maharashtra to Kerala and Karnataka. At nightfall, the mobile kitchens are set in motion, the streets are scented with a thousand and one perfumes, the fast is over until the early morning. In Mumbai, devotees gather at night along Ali Road and Bhendi Bazaar.
