CALANQUE DE L'OEIL DE VERRE AND LARGE CANDLE
Calanque de l'Œil-de-Verre and Grande Candelle to climb, with a breathtaking view of all Marseille, Cassis and La Ciotat.
The calanque de l'Œil-de-Verre, also known as the calanque de Saint-Jean de Dieu, owes its nickname to a ceramic eye embedded in a wall at the bottom of the Val Vierge corridor, a very steep valley of 400 meters. The site is very steep and suitable for climbing. To embrace a breathtaking view on all Marseille, Cassis and La Ciotat, you have to climb to the foot of the rock called "Col de la Grande Candelle". From the cove, you have to go up to the Œil-de-Verre pass, a passage equipped with steps and ladders, then pass the Devil's chimney to reach the Val Vierge plateau. You can then leave by the Candelle valley, the Sainte-Marthe valley, and finish by the Puits du Cancel and the Ricard pass to finally return to your starting point in Luminy.
