Created in 1881 by the patron Raphaël Bischoffsheim and designed by the architect Charles Garnier, the Nice Observatory has a unique natural, architectural, scientific and technical heritage.

All buildings at the time are classified Historic monuments. The collection of measuring and observation instruments testifies to scientific technologies at the end of the th and th centuries. Work by Gustave Eiffel, the dome of Grand Equatorial was, in its construction, the largest in the world. Today it remains Europe's largest mobile dome and is home to the world's largest astronomical window. Guided tours are organized several times a week.
