Timetable

Bars are open all week (often with a closing day on Monday) until 10 or 11 p.m. and until 2 or 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Nightclubs tend to be open from Thursday to Saturday. On the Adriatic coast, in Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica, discos and bars open until very late every day in high season. For activities with friends (cinema, bowling, go-karting, escape games), schedules vary greatly depending on the establishment. The performing arts are well represented in Emilia-Romagna, with several theatres offering a very rich programme: Regio theatre in Parma (teatroregioparma.it), Romolo Valli municipal theatre in Reggio Emilia (iteatri.re.it), Verdi theatre in Busseto (bussetolive.com)... Jazz festivals are held in Bologna and Piacenza, and Ferrara stands out for its many open-air musical events. The Imola circuit occasionally hosts rock concerts. Bologna's Arena Parco Nord hosts the Bologna Sonic Park in July, a music festival with international headliners (bolognasonicpark.com).

Budget & Tips

Entrance to nightclubs is often free. Sometimes it requires the purchase of a membership card. It's mostly the price of drinks that will hurt your wallet. At the theatre, the price of the ticket varies according to the location: orchestra seats are the most expensive, those on the top floor (paradise or henhouse!) are the cheapest. Finally, a good plan for a light meal without breaking the bank is to do the aperitivo at the beginning of the evening: for the price of your drink, you can pick from the appetizers on offer at the buffet.

To be booked

To make sure you have a place, booking is highly recommended for shows. Certain activities such as go-karting or escape games also need to be reserved in advance.

Night transport

It must be acknowledged that Emilia-Romagna does not stand out for the abundance of night-time transport. In the cities, public transport operates from 5am to stop between 11pm and midnight, with a few rare bus lines running until 1am. You will then have to take a taxi.

Age restrictions

Each nightclub has its own rules and regulations. The legal drinking age is 18. Make sure you always keep your ID card with you so that you can show it at the entrance of the establishment if necessary.

What's very local

A dress code is required in most nightclubs. Play the elegance card!

Smokers

Smoking has been banned in bars and nightclubs since 2005.
