Museums and some monuments are generally closed on Mondays. They are usually open from 9am to 6pm, but some take a break between 1pm and 3pm. Those that offer a few nights during the week are more and more numerous, in particular the modern art museums.
The rhythm of life in the north of Italy generally corresponds to the rhythm of northern Europe: at the office at 9am, break at 1pm and dinner at 8pm.

Italians eat a little later than Northern Europeans. At lunchtime, the kitchen usually opens at 1pm, and at dinner at 7pm. Most restaurants have at least one closing day per week, which varies greatly but often on Monday. On Sundays, they may be open for lunch and closed in the evening.

Cafés, tea rooms and gourmet shops (pastry shops and bakeries with tasting rooms) are generally open from morning until late afternoon (Italians love the little pastry shop with an espresso around 5-6pm!). Ice cream shops open a little later, around noon, and close in the evening. Bar hours vary: often open at noon in the city, around 5pm elsewhere, they close between 11pm and 3am.

Whilst supermarkets and international brand stores remain open without interruption from 9am to 8pm, small shops take a break from 12.30pm to 1pm to 3.30pm to 4pm. They are generally open from Monday to Saturday, but some stores in the big cities are also open on Sundays, even if this day is generally a day off.

Bars are open all week (often with a closing day on Monday) until 10 or 11 p.m. and until 2 or 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Nightclubs tend to be open from Thursday to Saturday. On the Adriatic coast, in Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica, discos and bars open until very late every day in high season. For activities with friends (cinema, bowling, go-karting, escape games), schedules vary greatly depending on the establishment. The performing arts are well represented in Emilia-Romagna, with several theatres offering a very rich programme: Regio theatre in Parma (teatroregioparma.it), Romolo Valli municipal theatre in Reggio Emilia (iteatri.re.it), Verdi theatre in Busseto (bussetolive.com)... Jazz festivals are held in Bologna and Piacenza, and Ferrara stands out for its many open-air musical events. The Imola circuit occasionally hosts rock concerts. Bologna's Arena Parco Nord hosts the Bologna Sonic Park in July, a music festival with international headliners (bolognasonicpark.com).
