CLY CASTLE
Ruins of a remarkable castle, a fine example of a medieval defensive castle.
Dominating the entire central valley, Château de Cly has all the hallmarks of early Aosta Valley castles: a large square keep, a wide crenellated enclosure built on a sheer escarpment and a small rectangular chapel. Home to the Lords of Cly, they came into conflict with the Count of Savoy, who requisitioned their property in 1376. In 1550, the building came under the control of the de Roncas family, who abandoned it in the following century. Its ruins bear witness to a medieval defensive castle, intact in its elements.
