FESTA DI SANT'ANTONIO ABATE
On the occasion of the feast of the patron saint of Novoli, a gigantic wooden tower is set on fire, forming a spectacular blaze.
Also known as Fòcara ("bonfire" in dialect), the Festa di sant'Antonio Abate is held from January 16 to 18 in honor of St. Anthony Abbot, the patron saint of the town of Novoli, in the province of Lecce. On this occasion, a gigantic wooden tower of several floors is erected, which can reach 25 m high and have a diameter of 20 m. On January 16, the tower is set on fire, forming a spectacular blaze. The Fòcara of Novoli is the biggest in Italy and even in Europe.
