CALIFORNIA NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL
The California National Historic Trail is a historic route that traces the journey of over 250,000 emigrants who came to California in the 1840s and 1850s in search of gold and fertile land. This mass migration is considered the largest in American history. The trail stretches over 5,000 miles and crosses 10 different states. Visitors can walk over 1,000 miles of tracks left by the voyageurs and their wagons. To plan a visit to the trail, interactive and planning maps are available, as well as information on historic sites to visit. The trail also offers digital resources such as photo galleries, videos and mobile applications.
