Martin Luther King Day has been a national holiday throughout America since 2000. In Atlanta, the city where the pastor was born (January 15, 1929), the celebrations last a week. On this occasion, a commemorative march is organized in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood, the place of his burial. Some states name this holiday differently. For example, in Arizona, it is known as Martin Luther King, Jr./Civil Rights Day. Incongruously, the state of Mississippi still shares the holiday with Robert E. Lee's birthday.
