The Mississippi Freedom Trail (or Civil Rights Trail) was created to commemorate the role of Mississippi in the American civil rights movement. It is a virtual route that highlights people and places that have played a crucial role in the fight for justice and equality, and in particular those who formed part of the civil rights movement in the 1950 s, 1960 s and beyond. The first 30 markers of the Freedom Trail, dark blue, were set up in the State in 2011, including ten to Jackson. Their number is constantly increasing.
