What budget for activities and outings Sicily?
Admission generally varies from €2 to €10. Discounts are available for under-18s from all over the European Union, over-65s and students. What's more, since 2015, most museums have been taking part in the ministerial #DomenicalMuseo initiative, which offers free admission to museums (but also archaeological parks, monuments, galleries and gardens) every first Sunday of the month.
Walks are free and self-guided if you just follow the signposted paths. You can also choose to go from village to village along small country roads. The sea is accessible free of charge, and so is the beach, everywhere in front of and around the lidos, those famous paid beaches where you can reserve a deckchair. There are many wild coves around the island and its satellite islands.
Good deals. You'll find slightly lower prices than in France in international ready-to-wear stores. The best-known Italian brands (Gucci, Prada, Armani, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana) are also less expensive in Italy, especially during sales. "Italian pumps, leather jackets and handbags are beautifully made and much more affordable than in France. We love the charm of small, independent boutiques that employ local craftsmen. A true national savoir-faire.
Prices are a little lower than in France for theater, cinema, opera and concerts.
What budget to eat Sicily?
Low budget. From €10 to €20 per person. Sicilian snacks are always available on the go, and can be quite hearty and inexpensive: arancini in particular, but also panini . .. If you're feeling a bit hungrier, a dish of lasagne, pasta or a good pizza is never too expensive.
Average budget. From €25 to €40 per person. Sicily's trattorias and traditional restaurants are marvels of affordable gastronomy, similar to France.
High budget. From €50 per person. Gastronomic restaurants spread their beautiful white tablecloths in all Sicilian towns. Wines can also go upmarket if you're looking for rare vintages or great Italian wines.
Bars are less expensive than in France, with a good cocktail costing between €5 and €8, but some bars charge similar prices to Paris, in the €12 range. Coffee is also well-priced throughout Sicily, and it's bound to be good, whether you take it ristretto, corto or largo (strong, short or long).
What is the budget for accommodation Sicily?
Small budget. 20 €/day for camping or per person in a dormitory bed in a youth hostel, 50-60 € for a room in a modest hotel or a slightly rustic agriturismo.
Medium budget. €70-120/day: nice, comfortable room in a charming hotel or luxury agriturismo.
Big budget. From €120/day upwards. Large hotels are legion in the old palaces of major cities, in coastal villas...
Travel budget Sicily and cost of living
Small budget. approx. €50-60/day: €20 for camping or a youth hostel, €25-30 for two meals on the go and €5-10 for a visit or bus trip.
Medium budget. €90-100/day: €50 for a room in a B&B, €30-35 for a meal in a trattoria and another on the go, and €6-10 for a visit.
Big budget. 200 €/day or more. You don't need an example for a big budget: the big hotels are legion, and so are the big restaurants...
The cost of living, for the same quality, is lower than here, but higher in eastern Sicily: Catania, around Etna, Taormina, Syracuse, but also the Baroque towns of Ragusa, Noto and Modica. However, even in these regions, prices drop as soon as you move away from the tourist centers and the high season.
