Practical information : Accomodation Florida
Budget & Tips
There are many hotels in Florida, in various price ranges to suit all budgets. Several hotel chains of the motel type are present on the outskirts of each city or almost (from 70 US$ per night). Of course, these are not the most authentic accommodations; if your budget allows it, we recommend independent hotels and Bed and Breakfasts full of charm that will allow you to interact with your hosts. Most of the state parks have camping sites where you can pitch your tent for about 30 dollars a night.
Prices do not include taxes, which vary depending on the location, so add 11-14% per night. Some large resorts charge an additional resort fee that includes access to the pool, wifi, beach towels and other services.
To be booked
In the last few years, accommodation prices have gone up in Florida and can double in high season (Spring Break, Easter weekend, Christmas...). It is therefore preferable to book your accommodations from France. In some parts of Florida, like the Keys or the State parks, it is even mandatory as these destinations are so popular.
Advice concerning Miami: it is wise to check that no big event is taking place during your stay (Miami Boat Show, Art Basel...), unless you absolutely want to attend it. Indeed, there is nothing like it to make the prices soar (and moreover, it makes the traffic in the city much more complicated).
It's usually better to book directly on the hotel websites rather than through the big booking platforms that charge hoteliers commissions. However, if you want to leave room for the unexpected by booking as you go, you should know that there are applications that offer hotel nights at discounted prices for the same evening. The best known is Hotel Tonight.
What's very local
Two room configurations are common in Florida, and in the United States in general: two queen-size beds (160 cm) or one king-size bed (180 cm). The vast majority of rooms (regardless of the type of hotel) are equipped with at least a small refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker, which is very practical for keeping water and food cold or eating on the go. Motel rooms have the particularity of having a parking space in front of the door. Finally, the vast majority of hotels in all categories have an outdoor pool, often heated. The setting is not always idyllic - in chain hotels, it is often located near the parking lot - but it is always nice to cool off after a hot day under the Florida sun.
Good to know: in the USA, the first floor corresponds to the first floor, not the second floor.
For food lovers
Breakfast is always included in Bed and Breakfasts, which often offer local and home-cooked products. Breakfast is also usually included in chain hotels. It consists of fruit, cereals and pancakes to cook yourself. It is not great gastronomy, but it has the merit of filling the belly at the beginning of the day, without extra cost. In the more upscale hotels, you will often have to pay extra.
Smokers
Smoking is not allowed in Florida accommodations (and in public places in general). However, some allow smoking on the balcony, but it is better to ask about this when you arrive.
