Celebrated in honour of Saint Anthony. On this occasion, large bonfires are lit in the main villages.
The fiesta of Sant Antoni Abat is celebrated every year on 17 January in honour of Saint Anthony, patron saint of domestic animals. On this occasion, large bonfires, symbolising purification and the victory of good over evil, are lit in the main streets and squares of the villages of Mallorca and Menorca, and the inhabitants, dressed in costumes, parade and dance. In Menorca they also celebrate the Catalan reconquest of the island in 1287 by Alfonso III. This is a major popular celebration that is not to be missed during a visit in mid-January.
