ARCHIVES DÉPARTEMENTALES DU NORD
The Departmental Archives of the North is more than 200 years of history and internationally renowned. It is in this exceptional place that the writings, images and maps that make the history of the department are preserved. And every year, the Archives collect nearly 1 000 new documents, becoming one of the richest documentary holdings in the world. Archived documents include not only key archives in the history of the North, but also witnesses to daily newspapers such as postcards, diaries or letters. All these valuable documents are kept in secure buildings specially designed for the preservation of archives. The reading room welcomes more than 2 500 readers each year. And if you own documents yourself, the Archives will help you to estimate their value, to keep them and historians can then consult them and draw unexpected secrets. The Departmental Archives also offer educational workshops around topics such as heraldry or the 14-18 correspondence. These free visits give access to original documents and enable children to understand history in a playful way. Finally, Archives lend numerous documents in travelling exhibitions across the department. An indispensable place for all those who want to learn more about the North and on themselves.
