GOSPEL CITY
The City of the Gospel is an exciting exhibition in an almost invisible place from the street: you can go to this chapel every day without noticing it. At the top of the rue de Gent, it is protected by the walls of the old convent of Des, just behind the historic ramparts of Lille, which explains its discretion. Built in 1623, the chapel experienced fires and was confiscated by revolutionaries who transformed it into stable and military stores before undergoing rehabilitation in the th century and complete renovation in the th century. The building, of great sobriety, is especially remarkable for the monumental altarpiece that occupies the choir, inspired by a painting by the Flemish painter Jacques Van Oost (1637 - 1713). Today, the place is disused as a church and therefore proposes a very complete exhibition, with many biblical scenes represented with models, on the life of certain saints or ecumenical characters. The subtitle, from Abraham to Martin Luther King, shows that willingness to open up spirit. Thanks to videos, costumes, signs, models, sound strips, etc., you will discover the wealth of the routes of these remarkable believers.
