THE ST. MARTIN'S GATE OR THE OLD PRISON..
Visit one of the few remaining vestiges of old Châteauroux, worth the detour for its romantic appeal.
It's one of the few remaining vestiges of old Châteauroux. Straddling a cobbled alleyway that has retained its old-world charm, the Porte Saint-Martin is well worth a visit for its romantic appeal. It's also an integral part of the city's history and development. Originally, it was one of the six towers of the Château Raoul. Then, in the 13th century, it became a prison, which was partially rebuilt in the 15th century to become the castle's gateway to the city!
