COURT BUILDING
Neoclassical courthouse, work of the architect Dauvergne, with a remarkable façade with columns and tympanum.
The neoclassical courthouse is the work of Alfred Dauvergne, a well-known local architect who designed and restored many buildings during his lifetime.
In 1850, he was commissioned to build the Palais de Justice in the former garden of the Capucins convent.
This was one of his first major works in Châteauroux. Completed in 1861 and inaugurated 4 years later, it features a facade with columns and a tympanum. Initially, it was connected to the neighboring prison via an underground system.
