GEORGE SAND'S HOUSE - VILLA ALGIRA
George Sand's house, with memorabilia and objects that bear witness to her activities in Gargilesse-Dampierre.
In the heart of the village, this modest house was acquired by the engraver Manceau for George Sand, with whom he lived from 1849 to 1865. From 1857 onwards, the writer made twelve spring and summer visits to her country residence, named after Algira, a rare butterfly in Berry. Memorabilia and objects testifying to his activities are preserved in his tiny dwelling. The region is the setting for his novel Le Péché de Monsieur Antoine.
