The 12th-century belfry was one of seven gates in the city's protective wall. It gave access to the castle district. Dismantled during the Wars of Religion, the belfry was restored in Renaissance style. The belfry was also used as a prison until the First World War.
Numerous graffiti carved by prisoners of 1914-1918 have been found here. Unfortunately, the latter cannot be visited, but the view is still impressive and clearly worth a detour on your visit to the city.
