CAR DECK
The old Cabignats bridge in La Châtre spans the Indre river and offers a fine view of some of the town's former tanneries.
The old Cabignats bridge lies at the bottom of a steep street. Its name comes from the name of the Escabignat family, wealthy merchants who contributed financially to its construction.
The bridge itself tells a great deal about the town's history, since on either side of it, you have a fine view of some old tanneries, an activity that once flourished in La Châtre. These buildings were drying sheds, equipped with balconies and wooden awnings to display the tanned hides for proper drying.
