PLAINCOURAULT CHAPEL
Small chapel of Plaincourault, very interesting for its wall paintings, part of a Hospitaller commandery
The small chapel of Plaincourault dates from the 12th century. It was part of a Hospitaller commandery. Very simple, it has harmonious proportions. The chapel is especially interesting for its wall paintings. Unfortunately, it is not often opened, so don't hesitate to enter when it is possible. You can admire a tree of knowledge from the Romanesque period, as well as fabulous animals painted in the 14th and 15th centuries. An amusing Renart plays the viola to put the hens to sleep. One guesses that the rooster who is watching will not be vigilant enough. The legend of Saint Eloi is also represented.
