Metallurgical workshop of Latté, presenting the techniques used to produce and transform iron in the Gallo-Roman period.

Iron metallurgy was a major industry in Berry from ancient times to the end of the 19th century. Brenne is home to many remains of this activity. At the Latté metallurgical workshop, you can discover the cast of an iron ore reduction furnace, as well as a real forge hearth. This is a blast furnace. The workshop also presents the techniques used to produce and process iron in Gallo-Roman times.

Atelier Métallurgique Gallo-Romain du Latte 36800 Oulches
L'atelier métallurgique gallo romain du Latté mérite bien une visite, tant il est complet. J'y ai découvert beaucoup d'informations concernant la métallurgie antique, l'évolution d'un atelier métallurgique dans le temps, les différents charbons, les fouilles, le foyer de forge, le moulage du four scories, ainsi que des planches présentant différents fragments (scories, fragment de four vitrifié, minerais, etc..). La clé est à demander à la Mairie ; les personnels sont très aimables, l'un d'entre eux vous accompagne à l'atelier, à quelques centaines de mètres. J'ai pu rester autant que souhaité pour visiter cet endroit surprenant. Je recommande sans hésiter !
