THE CHURCH AND THE PRIORY
The village of Saint-Benoît-du-Sault initially had only the Benedictine priory installed in an uncultured place (Sault comes from Latin Saltus). Then houses built around the religious building. The church dates from the eighteenth centuries. It has preserved a fairly austere Romanesque style with its granite walls and narrow vaults. The nef houses a XIII century sculpted granite baptistère. The church is open every day. In summer, we listen to high quality concerts. The priory that admits it is being restored, it is not visiting but the sight of its roofs from the Chaillac road is impressive. In summer, guided tours allow you to discover all the secrets of the building (booklets available at the tourist office).
