THE CHURCH AND THE PRIORY
This church has preserved its austere Romanesque style, with a nave housing a sculpted granite baptistery.
Initially, the village of Saint-Benoît-du-Sault consisted only of the Benedictine priory on a wasteland. Later, houses grew up around the religious building. The church dates from the 11th-14th centuries. It retains a rather austere Romanesque style, with granite walls and narrow vaults.
In summer, it is the venue for top-quality concerts. The adjoining priory is not open to visitors, but the view of its roofs from the road to Chaillac is impressive. In summer, guided tours reveal all the building's secrets.
